An acclaimed children’s author and illustrator of more than 40 books, Susan Schade grew up in Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard. While working as a waitress at a local diner, she met Jon Buller.

The couple settled in Lyme, Connecticut, where Susan worked at a library and Jon got a job at the post office. After Jon’s initial comic strips led to the sale of his first children’s book, Susan began writing stories to accompany his illustrations. The two have enjoyed a successful collaboration over the decades, with many of their titles receiving worldwide acclaim.
